Abstract:The production of defense responses in plants depends on the rapid and accurate recognition of the plant to the herbivore-associated signals. Early signaling events are the initial responses in plantherbivore interactions, which are responsible for plant recognition to the signals and triggering downstream signaling transduction pathways. These events occur before the expression of plant defense-related genes and the production of defensive compounds, and play a vital role in plant defense responses. A summarize was reviewed on the latest advances in early signaling events of plants in response to herbivory, mainly including herbivore-associated signal perception, electrical and calcium signaling, reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst and activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades. Furthermore, the research focus and direction in the future were put forward, and the paper would probably promote the study on the signaling network regulating herbivore-induced plant defenses and thereby provide the theoretical and technological support for improving the control of agricultural insect pest.
